About the CDs

The CDs contain two versions of each composition - one version with recorder parts, and one version with only the accompaniment.

"Don Muro was a pioneer in bringing the recorder into the musical environment that children now live in.  Originally in collaboration with the late Gerald Burakoff, educator and publisher of recorder music, Muro has been composing pieces for recorder with synthesized accompaniments since 1979.  His Easy 8 ... is one of his most popular collections with those who teach recorder in schools....For many years, I have used Muro's ...accompaniments with children and have found that they inspire students to listen while they are playing, both for intonation and rhythm... Muro's up-to-date synthesized accompaniments, particularly those with a steady rock beat, are just the ticket for today's young recorder students!"

Constance Primus, American Recorder

"…Don Muro's compositions for recorders and synthesizer have delighted players of all ages.  Mr. Muro’s creative genius incorporates the best or two components; the sensitivity of a traditionally trained musician and the proficiency of a skilled technician. His accompaniments are tastefully conceived. They utilize innovative techniques characteristic of 20th century electronic music.

Almost all of Don Muro's compositions are original and contemporary, capturing the essence of today's popular music. His melodies are lyrical and memorable with an underpinning of rhythmic excitement. Young students are instantly motivated to play them and will often perform beyond their previous playing level simply because they enjoy the selections. When I feel interest is flagging among my recorder students, I introduce a Muro composition and they respond with enthusiasm.

Adult consort players also will find selections such as The King's Highroad, Recorder Rock, and A Touch of Spain rewarding to play, ideal as concert selections, and guaranteed to elicit positive audience response.

Each composition allows a variety of instrumental combinations and performance options. The manuscripts are printed clearly with easy page turns. Phrasing is indicated by breath marks, and players have the convenience of observing the full score…

Among music educators teaching recorder, Don Muro’s works are becoming a mainstay. The recorder remains a viable instrument in this technological age of synthesizers, thanks to the ingenuity of this talented composer."

"...Sheer enjoyment is what Don Muro has been offering ever since the Long Island Recorder Festival commissioned him to compose The King's Highroad...His synthesizer accompaniments are marvels of both musicianship and technical wizardry..."
